In Search of Meaning: Only You Can Change Your World #3
- One day, after another hard day's work, I decided to walk home. I walked by pretty quickly and thought about it.Ingle, I've seen the situation I'm in, how it affects me, and on the other hand, what options I have and what makes me unable to move on. I saw fighting around me, aggression, sick ambitions, including mine. I realized that what was preventing me from leaving was the sense of importance that my job supposedly gave me. The fact that I'm the principal of the school, that they respect me, so I can't leave because that would mean I'm coming back. And then I thought: "I've already backed down by agreeing to such working conditions." The next day, I submitted my resignation. From now on, I feel like I'm coming home. I go to the gym, to the movies, I have time for books and meetings with friends. I've fallen down the professional hierarchy, but I've actually risen very high. I have restored peace, a sense of will, and the meaning of life. Was Acco the main driver of my decision? It is this deepening of the feeling of unhappiness.

Any imperative to change that is good. We are often afraid to take a step forward because we misunderstand what is good for us. We try to make decisions that, in our opinion, are aimed at creating our well-being, our happiness, although in reality happiness is illusory.
Medical sociologist Aaron Antonovsky, studying the fate of Jews who survived concentration camps, noticed an interesting phenomenon. Some of the survivors of the extermination remained disappointed and bitter. These people often fell ill and died a few years after their release. Others, despite such traumatic experiences, returned to optimism and good mood. Then they lived a long and good life.
Antonovsky formulated the concept of a "sense of connectedness" based on these observations. What it is is maintaining a balance between what affects us from the outside (such as trauma) and our emotional and health responses. According to him, people with a strong sense of consistency tend to be healthy. According to the sociologist, a sense of coherence is based on three basic principles: a sense of clarity, resourcefulness and significance.
The first pillar determines whether consistent stimuli emanating from the internal and external environment are understood. A person with a constant sense of clarity expects that the stimuli they encounter will be predictable, regardless of whether they are desirable or not. Alisha turned out to be the kind of person who saw that her work was toxic. The second pillar determines the level of ingenuity, that is, how a person perceives the available resources (those that he has and the people he trusts) - whether they are sufficient to meet the requirements.
